4th on the National Mall

So a few of you have wondered if I was evacuated off the Mall in DC on the Fourth because of weather and the answer is yes.  The group I was with got down to the Mall at around 3pm or so and set up shop with a great view of where the fireworks would be displayed.  It was very hot and humid with chances of rain in the forecast for that night.  At around 5pm the police announced over the PA system that everyone would be required to leave the Mall and wait in the basements of several of the museums until the expected lightening and tornadoes had passed.  Our group was told to go to the basement of the Freer Gallery of Art.  At 7pm they came around and told us that we were cleared to go back to the Mall and wait for the fireworks. Luckily we got our same spot back and set up shop again.  A few hours later the fireworks show began and let me tell you, it was amazing.  The fireworks were incredible, although they only lasted for about 20 minutes, it must have costs millions of dollars to put on that show.  The picture is of the group I went with, I don't really know half of them, but they were all a lot of fun anyways.

Wow, what a fun adventure! So glad you got your prime seats back before the show began. Your group looks fun.

That looked like it was a lot of fun. Our McPherson fireworks weren't anything spectacular and they only lasted a few minutes but we had them even in the middle of a downpour!

Dad and I just got home from our week at the temple so we are seeing this post and the rest of them way after the fact. Hope someone goes through and reads our comments. Glad you had fun, Layne. It seems like a neat place to be on the Fourth of July - our Nation's capital.
