Christmas Exchange

Can someone tell me why we changed what we were doing for the Christmas exchange? Where did the theme idea come from? Do we have to do that? Can we just get gifts for who ever we are exchanging with? I don't mean to offend anyone, I just am not a big fan of the themes and liked the cousin exchange a whole lot. It isn't often we get to buy for little ones anymore. Anyone else have thoughts?

My view of the new system is this:

It's easier in that you only have to ship a package to one family instead of a bunch of different directions.

You don't have to stick with the theme it just is a suggestion.

It makes things more equal i.e. some families have 5 kids therefore that is 5 cousin presents whereas others only have 1 kid so that isn't equal in the present buying department.

The family gifts are supposed to be all inclusive, but if you'd rather buy one gift for each member that is up to you.

It also is less expensive this way.

I thought last year it went ok, and I'm happy with the current plan. That is how I see things, anyone have a different point of view?

If Auntie Tracy wants to buy presents for the littles ones, I'm all for it! Those little cousins are very darling!

The cousin rotation was getting too complex for me and then when cousins wanted to get out of the rotation I lost heart so that is why we went to a family to family exchange.

But Stef is right, if you want to send individual gifts for each family member please do. Mike says no one need top down management on Christmas gifts - the theme is just for fun if you like it.
