Here is the update your Aunt Maxine. She is in intensive care but they have let dad visit her. The dr. aren't very optimistic about her living. If she does live they don't know what her condition will be. She will not be able to return to her apartment, so today dad paid the rent for November and gave notice that she would not be returning.
If Maxine lives through these next few days and recovers enough to leave the hospital she will have to go to a skilled nursing home. If dad found enough appropriate documents, Medicare will pay for such a home for 20 days. After that she either would have to leave, pay, or be eligible for Medicaid. The same documents would probably give her eligibility for Medicaid.Dad was able to be alone with her for a few minutes and he gave her a blessing. When he left he believed that he had said goodby and would not see her alive again. It has been a very difficult trip for him. He will return to Kansas in the morning.
