Some of you know and some of you don't that we are in a state of flux. Mars took over Nutro and promised to not "eliminate" anyone's job for two years. Well its not quite two years but they have notified everyone that one of the following 4 things will be happening to them as of May 23rd:
1) employee will be given a severance package and 60 day notice
2) employee will be given a severance package and asked to remain with the company to the completion of the merger upon which a bonus will be paid to employee for assisting in the process.
3) employee will be offered continuing employment status with Nutro/Mars at their present facility and location
4) employee will be offered to relocate to Tennessee and work in the same or a different capacity
We will know NOTHING until May 23rd. Needless to say we are NOT unpacking our boxes until we know something. But with the economy in the state that its in we need continued employment.....PERIOD.
We would be grateful for all of your prayers in our behalf.

VA weather report
You may have heard that there were some tornados in VA. Just in case you were worried the tornados were not in the area where Layne and I live.
We are doing well and the weather is GREAT. It is slightly rainy and just warm enough to make the rain a welcomed refreshment. (Sunday had a high of 83 with 0.6 in of parcipitation) Layne thinks it is getting warm and muggy, but we are a still a ways from what it will be in July when Mom and Dad come to visit. (average 87 with 3.7 in of parcipitation). But the pollen count has been very high today so that has not been fun for me.

Kristy's Farewell
We attended Sacrament meeting today in Santa Clara where my best friend Patrice's daughter had her missionary farewell. She is going to Korea. A young man named Jaden Webster sang a song and I loved it so much we went over to Patrices tonight to film it. Now you get to hear it to. This is also my first venture at posting a movie!!

Come Welcome James home with us
After thinking about it, Lewis and I would like to invite anyone who wants to join us, to come and welcome James home at the airport on Tuesday evening May 13th at the Las Vegas airport. I would love to welcome you all to our house, and you are indeed welcome, just keep in mind that most of our furniture is already in California. Please let us know if you are coming. We will make sure to meet up with you.

ByeBye Fence
We have been having crazy wind storms for the past few days. Last night was the peak and part of our back fence decided it was easier to lay on the ground than to fight the wind. Our neighbor came over to ask us if we were ready to replace it because he has a dog and as of right now he can't let the dog out because it would be able to run away. Too bad this wasn't on the list of projects for last week. Jason is trying to patch up the fence as best he can, but we will hopefully get it replaced this week.

Completed Projects
This last week we were treated with a visit from the Cornwall's. It was great to have them see our home and our little town. We immediately put them to work on all the projects we have been dying to get done around here. First the back steps:
After! We now have a grand staircase from which to exit the house toward the backyard. These stairs are very beautiful and much more grand than we could have ever imagined!!
The next project was to put a light up in the living room ceiling. Kent had to do some fancy maneuvering through our attic crawl space. We don't have a before picture so just imagine a plain old ceiling. This is the after shot of our new light! It makes quite the difference. We are excited to have some evening company and use our light.
Also on the list of projects completed is the master bathroom drain, siding fixed around the outside door (if you look at the before and after of the stairs you can see the before and after of the siding as well), both storage rooms now have light switches instead of a string to pull. I'm sure I have probably missed one or two because we (or should I say Kent) got so much done! Thanks!!!

Me
Hello,
I thought I would give an update on Me. ;) As many of you know I have had neck and shoulder problems for a longtime, which has caused me a lot of soreness and neck cracking. I have also had pinched nerves causing my hands to go numb. Well I have been seeing and orthepedic and been going through physical therapy several times a week. Well this past monday I had spinal injections in my neck which are used to shrink the nerves in the spinal cord so that they don't get pinched. They insert an epidoral needle into your spine and then use that hole to inject you with steriods from another needle. Besides a little soreness in my neck from being punctured I am very happy to say that all of the pain has gone away. I haven't gone without neck pain since high school when I hurt it weight lifting but now it is gone!!! This is very happy. Hopefully by continuing physical therapy and proper stretching and lifting techniques the pain won't return.

Date Pictures take 2
Alright, I corrected it for my own blog and couldnt figure out how to edit it so I deleted it and am posting the pictures again. They are headed to Mexican food and then bowling. Justice brought Caitlin flowers. It was very exciting and fun to curl her hair and listen to her jitters and talk about what fun she was going to have.

Happy Birthday to Jen!!
Everybody say Happy Birthday! Layne, I think it would be nice if you let Jen drive the Vette for her birthday!
Our New House
This is the first home that we have ever found that Lewis LOVED and thought he could live in until he dies. That is huge!!! About the only complaints I have is that the stove/cooktop are original equipment and look that way. We are thinking that at some point we will buy this house barring any big surprises during our rental so I am overlooking that knowing that at some point we would replace them. Otherwise, its wonderful. We would also want to sink a pool.
Email from James Mission President
I sent an email to the Nielsens thanking them for all they have done for James during the course of his mission and this was their response.
Dear Sister Whelchel,
It is sad to think of Elder Welchel leaving the island. It is something that we do not speak of often. It is a very bitter-sweet experience for us.
We wish all the parents could be here to witness the great growth of their sons and daughters. We know that you witness much of it as it comes through their messages sent home. You would be so pleased.
The evening when the departing missionaries come to our home is especially precious and poignant. We begin with a dinner of pork roast, bake potatoe, green salad and strawberry cheesecake. They seem to really enjoy this as they do not get 'Foreign Food' very often.
We then have some hymn singing. This always brings a strong spirit as they sing these hymns with all their hearts. Then we read Alma 26 with them having them substitute their own names and share their own experiences. We have a little advice from the two of us and then have a testimony meeting. Their love for the people is so great many of them say that it is harder to leave here than it was for them to leave their homes. We tell them that it is because they have learned how to love here as God has been their teacher, companion and guide. They are prepared now to give that love to their families and future family.
Elder Whelchel has been a very obedient missionary. He has done his very best to listen, follow and obey all that he has been asked to do by his mission president. We know that he is and will be greatly blessed because of his faithfulness. He is a leader and respected by all who know him. He will be greatly blessed. We love him dearly.
If you intend to share this email with him please wait until after he arrives home. We want to honor his desires to stay focused to the end. We love him dearly and he will leave a very big hole in our hearts. Thank you for sharing him with us.
Love,
President and Sister Nielson
