Birthday Coming!

We certainly have been a quiet family this week. I guess everyone is really busy. James Spencer will be 5 on Sunday, Oct. 1. If you feel so inclined he would probably love to get a card or a phone call from you.

Dad and I are finishing our last week of our mission. Next week we will be training our replacements. It is also a transfer week so it will be busy. It is very fortuitous that the new people will be here to observe how a transfer works and get in on all the work that goes with it.

Get your extra beds ready because dad and I are going to visit all of you. We will try to not wear out our welcome. Please make a "to do list" for dad - he loves to keep busy. I will hold babies. If there are no babies to hold I will do something else.

We love you. We appreciate your love, support and encouragement.

Pajamas

This is the debut of Paisley's new pj's. She has grown out of all her jammies which worked well during the summer because it was so hot she only wore a onesie but now that it is cooling down she needs warm pj's. Grandma Whelchel (Nana) found some cute, warm pj's for Paisley that are 12 mo. and she fills them out well.

Nap Time

Paisley sleeps in lots of crazy positions. Today when I went to get her up from her morning nap this is what I found! She is so cute!

Cruise Goers

Don't forget to make you final payment by September 20! The only way to do this is by calling them. We wouldn't want you to accidentally get cancelled!

THIRD PLACE!

Today I participated in the Heartbreak Ridge, Camp Pendleton Half Marathon. Tough course with lots of steep hills. Great support with marines everywhere giving you "Oorhahs" and smiles and gatorade and water. I didn't PR but was very pleased with my results. I learned after getting home that I took third in the Athena division. That is for women over 160. Woo hoooo. There were nine of us. I will take the medal and call it all "GOOD". Just think if I keep it up, I won't qualify for Athena soon. Woo hooooo that is really exciting.

Joke

Did you hear about the man who drove an electric car from New York City to Atlanta Georgia? He was very happy because the trip cost him only $2.75. Unfortunately the cord cost $45,000.00

Eggs Benedict

Tomorrow is President Raymond's birthday. Sister Raymond and I decided to have a birthday breakfast for him this morning and invite the office elders and senior couples. Sister Raymond decided to serve Eggs Benedict. I have heard of that but never tasted it. It was very good but quite time consuming to make. Maybe for the family reunion I will make it for people who are interested.

I hope you all have a great day.

Chicken

To keep the blog a fun thing to check in everyone's day I thought I would post something. We have tried to give Paisley little chicken bites on several occasions and she has hated it everytime. Last night Jason and I were eating chicken and I baked a plain piece for her and gave her little bites and she finally ate it! She loved it, but she didn't swallow very much because she is toothless and the pieces didn't get any smaller, so after a little bit we fished them out of her mouth, but we were very proud of her for trying it and liking it this time. Today I gave her a taste of some stuffing and she loved that too! She's growing up so fast!

Still babyless

Hey! I'm figuring this thing out. I am still great with child and getting greater every day. The ultrasound lady says everything is fine. Rebec suggested I clean under my bed to start labor and (too late!) Mike already cleaned under the bed because I bought me an area rug for my room. I had to mop the floor, but Mike says his part was much more grueling. I wish I knew how to do a voting thing like Stef did for Paisley's weight. I don't think taking everything out from under a bed to be more grueling than mopping a floor!

Friday was Vallen and Mike's daddy daughter date. They had so much fun. It was a rock n roll dance so I made Vallen a poodle skirt and while I was at it I made one for Grace too.

Saturday was Vallen's and my piano recital. That went well. Vallen had five pieces memorized and did a great job. I played four pieces as well as my half-hearted practicing would allow. I'm glad to be done with lessons and practicing for awhile now. I'm hoping to start voice lessons with someone as soon as the baby is ready to be independent for a few hours.

So a delayed baby has worked out ok so far, but she should have come today. Mike is balking at Elizabeth, so I need more girl names.

Best Friends

Results!

Well by now everyone who has wanted to has had a chance to vote on Paisley's weight. The correct answer is... drumroll... 17.9! Congratulations if you guessed right!
Hey everyone. Just so you guys all know, you all can now make comments on the Smith Blog.

INCREDIBLE NEWS

Hey everyone, I am soooo excited. There is a man named Dean Karnazes who is getting quite a bit of publicity at the moment and will be getting even more soon. He is doing what he calls the "Endurance 50". He basically is going to run 50 marathons in 50 days. Yep, can you believe it. Well, my good friend who also happens to be the race director of the Valley of Fire marathon hooked me up and I will be running "WITH" Dean for the second HALF (don't want to mislead anyone into thinking I am doing a full at his pace) of Valley of Fire on October 6th. Wooo hoooooooooooooo. He will be running about a 10-11:40 pace for these races and I believe I can keep up with him for the half distance. Cool huh?!!!

Here is the link to his website: http://www.endurance50.com/

A humongous Hug to Rebecca

for noticing my weight loss. I've been working so hard and she mentioned it minutes after seeing me. You made all the work worth it. Thanks and a big hug to you from me.

Hello, from Denver

Well, I'm officially due on Friday, but I was hoping to have the baby today or yesturday or the day previous to that. I had an ultrasound on Wednesday and they say this baby is 6 pounds 5 ounces. We'll see how close "they" get. Stef! I loved your birthday video for Dad. Paisley's crawling with the sign on her bottom was so funny.

James is still convinced the baby will be a boy because his 3 year old friend Johnny told James that he was supposed to be a girl too. Why does a three year old know that?

Oh, I forgot to say we have new barstools, too. So we have sitting for all of you to come visit us after your cruise. We are blessing the baby the first weekend in December and you are all invited.

The Whelchel's World

We don't have a new baby, but we do have a new Toyota Sienna. And an new area rug! But now I have to clean under my bed to put the rug down.

Sky Parade

Today was the start of the hot air ballooning that goes on for Labor Day. We woke up this morning to the swooshing of the hot air in the balloons. Some of them looked like they were going to land on our house. They energizer bunny was HUGE. It was very exciting and we look forward to 2 more days of hot air balloons!
